Sometimes, if you are really lucky, you are gifted a monster canvas, a canvas of a size that is beyond what you are willing to spend but maybe once every two years. You know the artist who has already left their mark upon it, but you are told to "paint over it, cut it up, do whatever, or throw it out"... And there is a bit of wariness and guilt in painting over another's work, but it's a FREE. MONSTER. CANVAS. ...and for whatever reason that somehow gives you the freedom to paint what you've always wanted but never had the courage before. And the more you prime it, the greater the feeling that someday it will be in a museum with a note that says, "some obscure long-forgotten artist painted over it, but if you look past that in this x-ray, you'll see Young Woman on a Yellow-Striped Couch, a masterful representation of minimalistic portraiture of the mid-twentieth century..." But this only serves your growing excitement that you get to paint WHATEVER you want, and you know that with this canvas, you are going to break from your traditional style and just play...
